LADY MUSGRAVE ISLAND

Want the local lowdown on Lady Musgrave? Swing by a Visitor Information Centre and have a yarn with someone who knows this place like the back of their sandy hand.

Day trips with Lady Musgrave Experience (2 hours from Bundaberg) or 1770 Reef Tours (1.5 hours from the Town of 1770) are your ticket into the lagoon, where jumping in with snorkel and fins means instant turtle-time, reef sharks cruising the coral, and a kaleidoscope of fish darting through the bommies. Walk the island with a guide to spot seabirds and nesting turtles (November to March), then head back into the water. This is one of the best snorkelling spots along the entire Great Barrier Reef.

But the real game changer? The new Lady Musgrave HQ pontoon. Floating in the middle of the lagoon, this three-level eco-hub is powered entirely by sun and wind, and built for big adventure. It’s your launchpad for day tours and dives, glass-bottom boat cruises and marine biologist missions. Keen to snorkel with purpose? Join the citizen science program and help survey coral, ID reef critters, and support real reef research while you swim. Want to stick around? Spend an unforgettable night on the reef. Glamp on the top deck or bunk down below sea level in the Underwater Observatory, where moonlight glistens and manta rays glide past your window.

Rather swap glamping for good old fashioned camping? You’re in luck. From Easter to late January, you can camp on Lady Musgrave Island for under $10 a night. Your own slice of reefy real estate, tucked under the trees with turtles and terns as neighbours. No Wi-Fi, no crowds, just off-grid bliss and snorkel adventures at the doorstep.

This tiny island? A total knockout.
